Meet the Team

  • Rachel Burger

    FOUNDER

Rachel, our founder, started her rescue journey adopting a people loving pittie named Gouda. She then went back years later to volunteer at that shelter and others. She learned of the desperate need for transportation for rides from the shelters to foster homes, vet visits, and enrichment activities. The journey started in her Elantra and upgraded to the now famous Frank the van! She loves spending time with her two pups J the fetch obsessed pit mix, Harold the copilot chihuahua, and the curious cats Alex and Cosmo. She can’t wait for Rescueber’s years and growth to come while celebrating over 2000 riders and 10000 miles on the road!

    BOARD MEMBER

Dog mom, cat wrangler, and unapologetic animal lover, I share my life with two rescue pups—Lou and Ella—and two equally iconic rescue cats, Goldie Banksy and Bocce Gilmore. My home (and heart) is built on second chances, which is what inspired me to help start Kindness Unleashed Pet Pantry—an initiative focused on supporting pet owners so they can keep their beloved animals where they belong: at home.

When I’m not advocating for animals or helping families care for their pets, you can usually find me on the bocce court, embracing a little friendly competition, or deep in my Swiftie era with a perfectly curated playlist.

I believe in community, compassion, and the kind of small acts that make a big difference—for both people and their pets.

    BOARD MEMBER

Colleen has been a Chicagoland native all her life and now resides in the Pacific Northwest. Her love for animals started at a young age; from rats and dogs, to chickens and hedgehogs. There was never a time when her home wasn't filled with animals. Colleen started off her career with pet sitting and dog walking and after graduating from the Vet Tech Institute at Fox College in 2016 she started working as a CVT at her local animal hospital. Having worked at a practice that provides care to the surrounding rescue community, Colleen found her calling in Shelter Medicine. When she isn't busy at work, she spends her time wrangling up her own pets, Bruce Kraig the chiweenie, Peter the chihuahua, and Dwayne “The Rat” Johnson. She can also be found being covered in clay while working on a new ceramic project or getting lost in the aisles of local thrift and antique stores. Colleen took her first Rescueber ride the summer of 2020 which involved some mischievous puppies. After having been pooped on, Rescueber truly left a... mark... in Colleen’s life!
