October Recap

On paper, October looked like it was slow.  But it’s pretty amazing when a ‘slow” month includes rescue rides for 48 dogs and 65 cats headed to 11 rescues (with 3 of those new rescue partners)!  We kept rolling all 4,865 miles of joy this month.  We started the month with a trip to Chicago Animal Care and Control for one pup headed to Players for Pits.  Well, we got to give a ride to him and his friend to foster homes and they couldn’t stop looking at each other the whole ride.  There was also an urgent medical kitten, Wyatt,  at CACC that needed immediate transport to one of our fav kitten fosters (and former copilot), Julia.  Wyatt has well-loved thanks to her and rescue, Community Cat Wisconsin, and due to significant medical conditions, he passed away in the love of his foster mama and rescue staff. We think of him every orange kitten we see and are so glad he got to experience the comfort of a dedicated foster home.

Next up, a trip South, back to our Louisiana intake partners!  We love seeing their smiling (masked) faces as they cry and laugh over their fosters (they have often had for months, if not years) headed to Chicago.  We scooped up 4 kitties and a puppy headed to Lulu’s Locker Rescue along with their other 21 dog and 5 cat van mates!  This ride was possible thanks to our ride sponsors (check out our Instagram and Facebook page for future opportunities to sponsor a rider) and 4 other rescue partners Animal Care League, One Tail at a Time, and Fetch Wisconsin Rescue. Also, a huge shout out to our co-pilot, Molly!  We couldn’t ride without you!
We relaxed for a couple of weeks and worked on some van buildout fun (we will be sharing more later this month on that) and then we hit the road for Texas!  We went to one of our favorite places, Sara Sanctuary, and hung out on their acres of animal sanctuary paradise before loading up 15 kitties for Heartland Animal Shelter and meeting Palm Valley Animal Society on the way back north for 22 pups headed to Mutts of the Midway, One Tail at a Time, and Heartland.  Cassi helped rock the copilot seat for this transport!
We ended the month transporting in the Midwest with volunteer driver Alexis driving 1 pup for One Tail at a Time, 10 feline friends for St. Sophia's, and 5 cat co-riders for Feline Fine Rescue.  We had to have some Halloween fun with costumes on a transport to Indiana for One Tail at a Time, Paws and Claws Rescue, St. Sophia’s, and Wishbone Rescue.  Added bonus, Ava, with Wishbone Rescue, stayed overnight (gah, senior girls night!) and Bader the kitten is fostering with us until he is adopted (still getting shots and his neuter in the next month or so).  We also had a huge happy dog dance thanks to our supporters for helping us raise over $5,400 to print our new children’s book, Harold Lou Rescues Too.  It teaches kids all about rescues and now 100% of future first edition book sales get to go directly to rescue rides!
We are able to keep road tripping thanks so all of you!  We are aware it is not an easy time and we are forever grateful for your support. We have been able to drive all but one rescue ride free of charge to our rescues, thanks to that support.  We are excited to share upcoming fun events to continue your support and get some cool goods in the process too!  The first, the Online Holiday Craft Bazaar for Chicago Animal Organizations, it has lots of perfect presents for the holidays including our Rescueber site stocked with home soap and candles, St. Francis bracelets, and an opportunity to preorder the first copies of our new children’s book, Harold Lou Rescues Too.

We all need some new art around the home office, right?  My dear friend, April Dippy is donating 10% of all sales of her mesmerizing art to add color and happy vibes to your space!

*** Last, but not least, save the date for our first annual gala, Harold Lou’s Barkmitzvah on February 6th, 7-9 PM.  More details are coming soon.  Be well and we can’t wait for all the riders to comets we are so close to our 1000 rider for the year.
