May was a BIG month for us in so many ways!  Shout out to our Liberation Press swag fundraiser that raised $125 for future riders.  We started the first transport of the month with our fav trip to South Bend with a trio of pups headed to Fetch Rescue.  CACC (aka where our transport journey started) had a couple months of low census for dogs (that’s AMAZING meaning dogs there got needed walks, play, etc. while awaiting rescue)

so we were delighted to hear a Chicago pup, Rogelio, needed a lift to their foster with One More Dog Rescue.   Tessa was next up for a road trip from CACC to rescue with Chicago Canine Rescue.  The weekend was time to head back west and get some new future best friends from Indiana and Michigan! The two mama cats and their 3 kittens headed to Catnap sung to pups Grumpy, Bunny, and Cody rescued by Our Pack Animal Rescue the whole way.  We got to drop off early do the pups and I got to do some snuggles before the rescue got there!  We have mentioned that the original vehicle for Rescueber just didn’t fit the requests we receive from rescues.  Heartland was SO generous to let us use their van to chauffeur 7 dogs headed to Fetch and Second City Canine Rescue and 3 cats now comfy thanks to St. Sophias.   After a couple days of rest (aka dreaming of future transports), we got a call from Second City Canine Rescue they Lavelle needed a ride to first time fosters (music to our ears), we happily picked up the sweetest, smiley copilot and dropped her off with her foster family.  Seeing kids excited for their new foster pup is the best gift of the month!
You’ve heard it before, but just a reminder there are ALL breeds of dogs in rescue, just look at rider Razzle Dazzle smiling the whole drive to foster home thanks to Mutts of the Midway.  Some may remember bottle babies Francesca and Luka with Lulus Locker Rescue, they are growing and we got to hear Francesca demand breakfast the whole way to the vet for their spay and neuter.   The highest risk population due to infection and stress  in shelters is kittens, Ms Abigail came in with two newborn babies and was so scared and not feeding them.  Fast forward to two hours later being dropped off at their foster home with Julia (a TEEN that fosters kittens) with Forever Fortunate Felines and she was feeding them and they are thriving and getting big and strong in a foster home.  Mid May we celebrated a big milestone, our biggest cat transport yet!  27 kitties are safe thanks to Heartland, Catnap, and St. Sophias.   Keeping the feline streak going, we picked up Paprika and headed to her Lulu’s foster home.  Since we were all about setting records, we did our longest drive thus far this month too!  2180 miles to Houston, Texas to meet furry friends from Palm Valley Animal Society!  They have worked so hard to improve animal welfare in their area and we are honored to give a ride to 12 pups and 5 kittens for Mutts of the Midway and Lulu’s Locker Rescue!
After cuddles with my life copilots J, Alex, Harold, and Cosmo (aka my dogs and cats), we met the newest passenger Beso, for Mutts of the Midway headed to foster!  Our last rider of the month, from CACC headed to a foster with Players for Pits, Marigold!
Now, the BIGGEST and BEST news yet.... WE GOT A VAN!!! We got a deal we couldn’t pass up and this van allows us to never say no to a transport based on vehicle space (a dream from the beginning).  With a new van comes new costs that allow us to continue saving lives!  We are proud to have 7 monthly donors so far and we are looking for 23 more people to join our life saving rides!  You get a gift and a monthly postcard from a rider!  We are also doing a Paw of Fame, for donations of $75 or more, your pet gets drawn by JG Graphics (check out Sosa) and their smiling face rides along on the side of the van with us!  We are also looking for businesses that want some advertising while helping rescue animals, we have 5 advertising spots on the van!  We can’t wait to show you all our new riders in the van next month!  For those stats loving people, this month we did 18 rides for 74 riders with 9 rescue partners hitting the road for a total of 3,439 miles.  That’s about $700 in just gas!  We think all these cute furry faces make it worth every mile!
