![]() 2021 here we come! It’s been such a busy start to the year, I forgot to write the first two blogs of the month. Our first feline fares of the month started on January 1st, a trio of older kittens that rang in the New Year at my house were dropped off at Catnap. We kept the cat vibes going with 3 kitties headed back to their foster homes after their vetting for Lulu’s Locker Rescue and two more kitties from Catvando headed to another vet the next day! Giving a rescue a transport option for vet visits allows them to use that time for much needed time to focus on their facilities and volunteers. We then packed up the van with more crates than I could count and headed to Louisiana for a full load of 41 of your future furry friends headed to rescue partners Lulu’s Locker Rescue, Border Tails Rescue, Animal Care League, and Wishbone Rescue. Ain’t no slumber party like a kitten slumber party, which was a blast that night before 11 kittens headed to Catnap the next day. ![]() We love partnering with community networks and Paw Salvation is supporting the community of pet owners experiencing homelessness as well those that are seniors and veterans. While Paw Salvation was in a home to visit a client, he met Midnight, who needed a new home after the previous tenant moved. As soon as he posted Midnight, the wheels of the network train started! Animal Care League assisted with veterinary needs and we provided his transportation for that visit! He is in the process of finding a new forever home and we loved having him along for a ride. Before we knew it, our volunteer rescue ride rock star drivers Jes and David hit the road for Texas! They arrived back to Chicago at sunrise with 10 riders ready for a rest in a comfy bed with One Tail at a Time, Fetching Tails Foundation, and Mutts of the Midway. Since Frank the van was in Texas, we had two groups of amazing new volunteer drivers pick up 12 kitties from Indiana that then went to Wisconsin Humane Society! We couldn’t do what we do in growing our rescue rides without dedicated volunteers like them! If you are interested in becoming a volunteer driver with your vehicle, check out our website for more info. This month was all about the long rescue rides! We welcomed volunteer, Susan, aboard the Frank van team and went back for more Louisiana buddies meeting us in Arkansas (yep, two in one month!). After a Memphis BBQ and a night’s rest, we loaded up and through snow and wind got all 34 fur friends with rescues Border Tails Rescue, Paws and Claws Chicago Rescue, St. Sophia's, and Catnap from the Heart. Our out-of-state fun was not done yet, a duo of pups rescued by Our Pack Animal Rescue needing a ride from Indiana to Wisconsin as we happily obliged! Our January jaunts finished up with a cat transport from Indiana for St. Sophia’s Forgotten Felines with 13 new feline friends! For our statisticians, that is a grand total of 132 riders for 6,987 miles this month. We can’t wait to see what the rest of winter and spring has to come for rescue road trips!
