January recap

2021 here we come!  It’s been such a busy start to the year, I forgot to write the first two blogs of the month.  Our first feline fares of the month started on January 1st, a trio of older kittens that rang in the New Year at my house were dropped off at Catnap. We kept the cat vibes going with 3 kitties headed back to their foster homes after their vetting for Lulu’s Locker Rescue and two more kitties from Catvando headed to another vet the next day! Giving a rescue a transport option for vet visits allows them to use that time for much needed time to focus on their facilities and volunteers.   We then packed up the van with more crates than I could count and headed to Louisiana for a full load of 41 of your future furry friends headed to rescue partners Lulu’s Locker Rescue, Border Tails Rescue, Animal Care League, and Wishbone Rescue.  Ain’t no slumber party like a kitten slumber party, which was a blast that night before 11 kittens headed to Catnap the next day.

We had to finish 2020 on a high note and we did just that with 9 trips joined by 186 December riders!  Volunteer driver and new board member Colleen trekked to Ohio (our 11th state) for a senior hospice rottie named Gramps. They then headed to Doggy had Soul Sanctuary and scooped up six kitties for Catnap from the Heart and Feline Fine Rescue.

November was a small number of transports, but a huge impact.  The first rescue road trip was back down to our Monroe County, Louisiana intake partners. This community of rescuers is full of passion and heart with combined efforts of their animal control, a foster based temporary rescue, and independent rescuers.  With these forces combined, they are saving hundreds of lives a year and you can see their devotion and love of every animal they say goodbye to while loading them onto the van to head North to foster and adoptive homes.

October Recap

On paper, October looked like it was slow.  But it’s pretty amazing when a ‘slow” month includes rescue rides for 48 dogs and 65 cats headed to 11 rescues (with 3 of those new rescue partners)!  We kept rolling all 4,865 miles of joy this month.  We started the month with a trip to Chicago Animal Care and Control for one pup headed to Players for Pits.  Well, we got to give a ride to him and his friend to foster homes and they couldn’t stop looking at each other the whole ride.  There was also an urgent medical kitten, Wyatt,  at CACC that needed immediate transport to one of our fav kitten fosters (and former copilot), Julia.  Wyatt has well-loved thanks to her and rescue, Community Cat Wisconsin, and due to significant medical conditions, he passed away in the love of his foster mama and rescue staff. We think of him every orange kitten we see and are so glad he got to experience the comfort of a dedicated foster home.

September Recap

There’s only one word to describe this month… record breaking!  We had our biggest transport, longest transport, and most new drivers this month!  We continue TNR/A (trap neuter return/adopt) Tuesdays with Catvando. We listened to 30 meowing riders for them this month and can’t wait to see future furry fares!  We also had a new driver, Kelly, take one of their kittens to a vet appointment for an injured leg.  We love volunteers that allow us to keep serving our community when our core drivers are traveling or working.  We have our volunteer application coming on the website soon. Another very familiar drive for us to South Bend, Indiana was up next with our volunteer bottle baby kitten feeder Colleen.  6 pups headed One Tail at a Time and Heartland.  The bottle baby joined the party at Heartland as well.  Then Rescueber HQ had a slumber party with 2 kittens headed to Our Pack and another kitten duo heading to Lulu’s Locker Rescue.

PictureNew fan and our volunteer installer.
Rescueber rocked 7 trips this month with a total over 3,500 miles!  That’s $500+ in just gas if you are keeping count!  We started our month's travels heading to an Indiana partner for a kitty with a broken leg. Heartland Animal Shelter said, ‘of course’ to providing medical care and a loving foster home to heal it!  We took a couple days off to work on the vent fan in the van (whoo hoo cool passengers) and then headed back Indiana for more fur friend riders, 15 cats headed to Catnap, Heartland, and St. Sophia’s!  There was a lot of meows on that ride.

We have put the van and all it's space to GOOD use this month!  We are all about helping the rescue animal, but also pet owners as COVID has limited people’s ability to provide for their beloved pets.  We transported donations from Chicago Animal Care and Control and Castle Black Paw to One Tail at a Time and the pop up food pick up (human and pet) on the Southside with MASK Chicago.  Harold came along for the ride.

Are you ready for our busiest month yet?

It was our first month with Frank (the van, named after St. Francis of Assisi - patron Saint of Animals) and he showed up for all the rescue rides!  Our first riders were headed from Michigan and Indiana to Wisconsin rescue partners
Our Pack Animal Rescue!  Say hi to LT, Stella, and Miriam (we all know my weakness for senior chihuahuas and she was almost snuck into my car).  They hitched a ride with Alexis, our volunteer driver, who has helped (SO much) to ensure we can do multiple rides the same day and I get a day off sometimes (yay to self care).

Added bonus, all three are already in forever homes!

May was a BIG month for us in so many ways!  Shout out to our Liberation Press swag fundraiser that raised $125 for future riders.  We started the first transport of the month with our fav trip to South Bend with a trio of pups headed to Fetch Rescue.  CACC (aka where our transport journey started) had a couple months of low census for dogs (that’s AMAZING meaning dogs there got needed walks, play, etc. while awaiting rescue)

We continued to be so proud of the Chicagoland and Wisconsin  residents for their outpouring of willingness to foster and adopt.  This has given us an inspiration push of more rescues needing rides for new pups and cats!    We started April with some of our favorite staff at Chicago Animal Care and Control and met the beautiful Hippo,  Wallace and headed to a foster with Players for Pits.   Word has it, he is listed on their website as adoptable!  The next day we got to swing back to CACC and bring  Rogelio to his foster with It’s a Pittie  Rescue.  We also celebrated some of our FAVORITE news: Sosa, is now Soda and was ADOPTED!  Rescueber first met him when of helping his owner get to a vet appointment and several months later, giving him his freedom ride when he needed rescue after his owner passed away.  We proudly showered him with some Bring a Buddy adventures to the city and events and couldn’t be happier to see him in his forever home!  Thanks to Mutts of the Midway  and their foster home for all the dedication to him!  Muenster was our first kitty rider of the month and went to a foster thanks to Castle Black Paws  (one of our fav cat ladies).   We love our Texas  dogs and McKenzie showed us her southern sweetness while getting a ride up North to Wisconsin with  Our Pack Animal Rescue and she is already adopted!
